Principal Software Engineer – Location Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and advance the architecture of essential Location Services and geospatial functionalities.

• Spearhead system design for scalable, low-latency, and highly available location-oriented services.

• Establish standards and best practices for geospatial data modeling, querying, and processing.

• Assess and implement advantageous technologies, patterns, and frameworks.

• Act as the technical leader for key geospatial components and services.

• Direct teams through intricate technical projects that span multiple services or domains.

• Ensure that solutions fulfill performance, accuracy, reliability, and security criteria.

• Shape roadmap direction through technical knowledge and risk evaluation.

• Collaborate with product, data, and infrastructure teams to synchronize technical direction with business objectives.

• Provide technical expertise to engineering teams utilizing Location Services.

• Address cross-cutting technical challenges and minimize architectural fragmentation.

• Enhance observability, resilience, and fault tolerance of geospatial systems.

• Lead root-cause analyses for major production issues and ensure sustainable corrective measures.

• Advocate for automation, testing strategies, and reliability engineering practices.

• Mentor both senior and mid-level engineers.

• Establish standards for engineering excellence, system design quality, and documentation.

• Exemplify pragmatic decision-making and long-term systems thinking.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience with a proven record of senior technical leadership.

• Extensive experience in designing and managing large-scale distributed systems.

• Strong knowledge of geospatial concepts, including spatial data models and indexing; geospatial queries, transformations, and projections; as well as considerations for location accuracy, precision, and data quality.

• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, such as Java, C++, or Python.

• Experience in building and maintaining cloud-native services like GCP, AWS, or Azure.

• Comprehensive understanding of relational, NoSQL, time-series, or geospatial databases.

• Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams without direct oversight.

• Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical trade-offs to varied audiences.

• Previous ownership of location-based or geospatial platforms within production settings.

• Experience with real-time or near-real-time location processing workflows.

• Familiarity with geospatial tools and standards.

• Proficient in Docker and Kubernetes.

• Background in reliability engineering, performance optimization, and scalability testing.

• Experience in guiding architectural choices in a platform or shared-services organization.
