This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Create and enhance new systems while improving existing ones.
• Decompose complex challenges into fundamental components to construct efficient solutions.
• Collaborate with product teams to identify opportunities for reuse and eliminate redundant development efforts.
• Take ownership of and advance the technical strategy and architectural direction across three teams.
• Review, improve, and refactor infrastructure to align with modern architectures.
• Design and develop software applications that handle high traffic and large-scale data-flow processes and deployment infrastructure.
• Construct systems for monitoring, alerting, automated builds and deployments, as well as application performance metrics.
• Advocate for best practices in test coverage, enterprise standards, target architecture, availability, scalability, latency, and fault tolerance.
• Establish common engineering standards, patterns, and guidelines.
• Identify and address systemic technical risks and dependencies across products and teams.
• Design and implement a comprehensive QA platform and solution.
• Facilitate solution design discussions and assess tools and technologies for feasibility, cost, and adoption.
• Influence long-term technology strategies and investment priorities.
• Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, scalability, reliability, and security goals.
• Serve as the principal technical advisor for significant technical decisions.
• Lead teams in creating new systems and initiatives.
• Mentor, guide, and support team members in applications, technologies, best practices, and processes.
• Review code for quality, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Manage daily work-unit deliveries, participate in Agile stand-ups, escalate blockers, and ensure timely task and sprint goal completion.
• Communicate updates to stakeholders and coordinate timelines.
• Assist team members in developing their skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Expertise in one or more of Java, TypeScript, or NodeJS, with a willingness to learn the others.
• Over 5 years of experience in building high-traffic web applications and deploying them to production.
• Familiarity with cloud-based platforms, preferably AWS.
• Experience in supporting live applications and troubleshooting production issues.
• Ability to interpret logs and application dashboards such as Grafana and AWS CloudWatch.
• Experience in writing SQL queries and working with SQL databases like MySQL and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB.
• Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Experience with GitLab, CI/CD, Jenkins, and Sonar.
• Background in Agile teams and time-boxed delivery environments.
• Capability to manage production issues and provide on-call support.
• Ability to see the overall picture and understand how team, task, and project interconnect.
• Strong verbal communication skills with an ability to convey ideas and project status effectively.
• Documentation skills using Confluence, wikis, or similar tools.
• Time management skills, including work estimation and timely delivery.
• Ability to collaborate across technology and product teams while managing expectations.
• Experience working with multiple teams and on cross-team projects.
