Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Deliver technical expertise to design both current and future architectural software components and products that support H&R Block business applications.

• Employ current tools, technologies, programming languages, coding standards, and best practices to create new features for products.

• Lead the planning, design, and implementation of strategic product direction.

• Create and maintain documentation for intricate software components.

• Guide internal system architecture decisions and facilitate discussions regarding architectural modifications.

• Develop optimal solutions for intricate changes.

• Transform high-level concepts into detailed architectural methodologies.

• Oversee the design of product features that enhance scalability, usability, and performance.

• Analyze complex business and functional requirements and direct the creation of technical specifications and product requirements.

• Establish and uphold coding and development best practices within the team.

• Design and develop reusable code components.

• Continuously enhance knowledge of relevant technologies, algorithms, languages, design methodologies, third-party tools, platforms, hardware compatibility, and operating systems.

• Mentor and coach team members on technological advancements and competing technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience through a combination of education and work experience.

• Ten to twelve years of experience in application development, including experience in developing and maintaining projects.

• Familiarity with various platforms and the ability to assess technical architecture related to application software.

• At least two years of experience in a lead developer role, possessing a robust technical design and development background.

• Understanding of object-oriented design techniques, UML, software architecture, complex pointer manipulation, and memory management of intricate structures.

• Experience in creating technical specifications.

• Capacity to work independently and devise logical solutions.

• Knowledge of process and data modeling concepts.

• Proficient in using Word, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Strong time management, planning, and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities in a fast-paced, matrix-managed environment.

• Demonstrated creative, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.

• Strong leadership capabilities.

• Ability to function as a team leader, coordinate activities, and communicate information effectively.

• Skill in planning and scheduling tasks for team members to achieve project objectives.

• Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Ability to engage with both technical and non-technical project team members across various locations.
