Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Leads the definition and progression of our architecture utilizing Distributed Domain Driven Design methodologies.

• Serves as the strategic authority for essential Architecture Quality Attributes (e.g., Availability, Performance, Scalability, Security) to guide architecture evaluations.

• Delivers architecture consultation embedded in projects to advocate best practices, design patterns, and informed decisions on whether to buy or build solutions.

• Aids in prioritizing enhancements to platform capabilities across feature and data platforms.

• Improves the collection and dissemination of architecture descriptions using automation and innovative tools.

• Oversees platform-wide strategies, including naming conventions, protocol standards, and design patterns, to ensure continuous value generation.

• Effectively communicates complex technical ideas in both written and verbal formats, addressing both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Works collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve consensus when necessary, ensuring alignment on architectural choices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 15 years of pertinent experience.

• Experience with high-volume distributed technical architectures that have a significant cost of failure, emphasizing reliability and availability.

• Familiarity with various ‘Big Data’ technologies such as: ElasticSearch, NoSQL Stores, Kafka, Columnar Databases, DataFlow or Pipeline Systems, Graph DataStores.

• Proficient in utilizing common infrastructure services like Enterprise Message Bus platforms, configuration services, toggle management systems, and observability tools such as logging and distributed tracing systems.

• Experience with Domain Driven Design principles and practices, including bounded contexts, event storming, and specification by example.

• Skilled in the design, implementation, and management of data-intensive distributed systems.

• Ability to design and articulate both external and internal architectural viewpoints of well-encapsulated systems (e.g., Service Oriented Architecture, Docker-based Services, microservices) using patterns and tools such as Architecture/Design Patterns and Sequence Diagrams.

• Proficient in Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) with a focus on automation tools like Terraform, Jenkins, and CodePipeline.

• Knowledgeable in API/Data Model Design and Implementation, including scaling, ensuring high availability, or mapping to storage systems.

• Familiarity with multiple software stacks.

• Experienced in designing and operating software within a Cloud Provider such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Understanding of algorithm development for intensive pipeline processing systems.

• Possesses knowledge on designing and developing from a security standpoint.

• Capable of identifying, selecting, and extending third-party components (Commercial or Open Source) that offer operational advantages without hindering product and engineering creativity.
