Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish trust with clients by showcasing technical proficiency and comprehending their domains and goals

• Spearhead platform engineering initiatives at the client level

• Oversee platform strategy and execution across various platform types

• Balance technology selections while ensuring high-quality deliverables within specified timelines

• Provide counsel to clients on architecture, scalability, and platform development

• Collaborate throughout the entire ML lifecycle, from data ingestion and preprocessing to model deployment, integration, and performance monitoring

• Introduce innovative technical approaches and product solutions

• Lead or initiate feedback discussions through retrospectives

• Document results and drive actionable outcomes

• Design and manage overarching technical roadmaps for significant projects

• Cultivate relationships with clients and industry leaders

• Mentor client engineering teams and facilitate knowledge transfer

• Influence the decisions of client CTOs and executives

• Collaborate with account teams on planning, opportunity identification, stakeholder relationships, and pre-sales scope definition

• Facilitate retrospectives, strategic sessions, and in-depth technical discussions

• Identify, mitigate, and resolve obstacles

• Mentor, lead, or design workshops, represent 8th Light in the technology community, and assist in hiring processes

• Exhibit leadership in scalable system design, modular architecture, and platform- or product-focused development

• Employ testing strategies, observability, fault tolerance, secure engineering practices, and architectural patterns

⛳️ Requirements

• Typically possess 10+ years of consistent success across a range of projects

• Extensive consulting expertise, technical skills, and product-oriented thinking

• Proven experience in developing and delivering production-grade platforms, reusable foundations, tools, infrastructure, and workflows

• Background in transitioning AI and agentic systems from prototype phases to production, encompassing infrastructure, authentication, and observability

• Experience in managing high-stakes consulting engagements across diverse programming languages, stacks, ecosystems, and client industries

• Proficiency in leading production-grade software delivery utilizing Java, C#/.NET, Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Go, Ruby, Scala, R, and SQL

• Experience with AI development tools

• Background in building or integrating AI/ML functionalities, such as recommendation engines, NLP, computer vision, predictive analytics, RAG pipelines, and agents

• Experience in leading modernization and replatforming projects

• Expertise in addressing architecture-level challenges related to scalability, security, reliability, performance, maintainability, and observability

• Proficient in ensuring alignment among technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Experience in providing mentorship and team support at scale

• Strongly preferred: expertise in platform engineering, Databricks/data engineering, production agentic systems, RAG pipelines, vector search, LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, AutoGen, n8n, DevSecOps, DevOps, MLOps, and Infrastructure as Code
