Principal Software Engineer – Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Establish a technical direction for 6–12 months across devices, applications, and cloud environments.

• Convert product priorities into architectural frameworks, responsibilities, and delivery strategies.

• Spearhead cross-team projects from defining problems to launch and user adoption.

• Address trade-offs with team leaders and pinpoint priority and resource conflicts.

• Develop critical-path code and create prototypes.

• Oversee migrations and troubleshoot complex production challenges.

• Take ownership of the practical execution and results of architectural decisions.

• Streamline shared systems and interfaces.

• Enhance reliability, observability, security, and developer workflows.

• Mentor senior and staff engineers through design processes, collaborative work, and shared delivery.

• Create lightweight decision-making practices that foster team autonomy.

• Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools to boost delivery or quality.

• Collaborate with Data Science, AI, and platform owners on production integrations.

• Report directly to engineering leadership while remaining actively engaged from design to production.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience leading architecture and delivery across multiple teams at a Senior Staff or Principal level, demonstrating measurable outcomes.

• Extensive knowledge in backend development, distributed systems, and cloud technologies.

• Capability to reason across devices, mobile platforms, data, and service boundaries.

• Experience in building and maintaining production-level software.

• Track record of managing challenging integrations or migrations.

• Skill in making practical trade-offs among speed, reliability, security, costs, and maintainability.

• Ability to transform ambiguity into clear plans and align both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience in developing senior engineers into more proficient technical leaders.

• Familiarity with connected devices, consumer subscriptions, fitness, digital health, healthcare integrations, or sensitive-data systems is a plus.

• Experience with AI in production products or engineering workflows is an additional advantage.
