Principal, R&D Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Convert portfolio strategy into a practical R&D operational plan across various product lines

• Develop R&D governance, encompassing decision rights, approval gates, and operating rhythms

• Oversee the entire SDLC process from intake to release

• Implement the planning hierarchy and its associated approval gates

• Streamline handoffs between Product Management, Product Owners, Design, and Engineering

• Manage Asana, Jira, and Confluence to accurately reflect processes and generate dependable delivery data

• Coordinate the Commercial Interlock process, aligning Product, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Customer Success from roadmap to revenue

• Facilitate SKU approval for pricing, packaging, and revenue mapping prior to launch

• Maintain the release calendar and ensure launch readiness

• Define ownership and decision rights, escalating cross-functional conflicts to leadership as necessary

• Oversee monthly R&D reporting on expenditures versus budget, capacity, delivery, and risk

• Collaborate with Finance on R&D budgeting and forecasting

• Manage tracking of R&D capitalization and document CapEx/OpEx treatment

• Connect R&D investments to adoption, retention, and revenue results

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline

• 8+ years of experience in R&D, engineering, or product operations, or in a PMO within a software or data organization

• Demonstrated capability in managing an SDLC across diverse product and engineering teams

• Administrator-level proficiency with Asana, Jira, and the Atlassian suite

• Familiarity with R&D budgeting, forecasting, and software capitalization practices

• Experience in executing a go-to-market or commercial readiness process

• Strong analytical and communication abilities; capable of influencing senior leaders without formal authority

• Experience with Scrum and agile delivery methodologies is preferred

• CSM, PSM, or SAFe certification is advantageous

• Background in SaaS or data businesses, including familiarity with subscription metrics such as ARR, retention, and renewal

• Proven experience in implementing process changes while projects are ongoing
