This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.
• Lead and oversee a proficient team specializing in power systems modeling and analytics for utility clients.
• Guide and train junior engineers in the fundamentals and principles of power engineering.
• Enhance job-related engineering, technical, and professional knowledge and skills, as well as overall performance of both individuals and the team.
• Undertake project management responsibilities, which include forecasting, monitoring hours, budgeting, scheduling milestones, organizing meetings, and assigning tasks.
• Engage with potential clients to showcase ICF's expertise and secure new business opportunities.
• Develop scopes of work, project timelines, and budget projections.
• Attend weekly client meetings and provide updates on project status.
• Create, update, and manage transmission short circuit models utilizing software such as CAPE and ASPEN.
• Create, update, and manage transmission power flow models using tools like PSSE and PSCAD.
• Develop, update, and maintain distribution system models with programs such as CYME, Synergi, and WindMil.
• Conduct Arc Flash analysis of facilities to determine hazard ratings.
• Analyze transmission line modeling using LiDAR and 3D models with software such as PLS-CADD.
• Perform voltage imbalance analysis utilizing tools like PSCAD.
• Calculate thermal ampacity ratings for conductors and equipment in accordance with FAC-008, FERC-881, and relevant IEEE standards.
• Compose detailed technical reports summarizing analysis results.
• Develop automation scripts using Python, SQL, and VBA to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of analyses.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Over 12 years of experience in electrical engineering theories and principles, including transmission and distribution system modeling, short circuit and power flow analysis, arc flash hazard calculations, voltage imbalance studies, and/or thermal ampacity ratings.
• More than 5 years of experience working within an electric utility, such as an investor-owned utility, municipal utility, or electric cooperative.
• Experience in people management and mentorship.
• Proven ability to direct and review the work of others for quality assurance, providing constructive feedback.
• Familiarity with the practical application of industry standards such as IEEE, ANSI, NERC, and FERC regulations.
• Proficiency in scripting with Python to automate analyses in power systems software.
• Capability to plan and manage assignments while effectively communicating any barriers to completing tasks within budget and schedule.
• A proactive approach to continuous learning toward becoming an expert in the programs and technologies involved.
• Proficient in using computer software tools for modeling engineering problems, automating systems, and conducting spreadsheet-based analyses and automations.
