Senior Data Engineer – Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct discovery sessions with business stakeholders to convert needs into actionable acceptance criteria.

• Transform unstructured healthcare operational data into certified dimensional models throughout the Databricks architecture, progressing from bronze to silver to gold, utilizing dbt and SQL.

• Take ownership of defined metrics and integrate business logic into a semantic layer.

• Develop and manage Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and paginated reports.

• Oversee the health of data refresh processes and the currency of semantic models.

• Ensure model observability, focusing on freshness and latency detection, statistical anomaly detection, value-drift monitoring, data validation tests, regression safeguards, and continuous integration checks.

• Design and oversee dbt Cloud jobs and Airflow DAGs, including scheduling, dependencies, and incremental runs.

• Produce design documents, maintain model documentation, create a CI-enforced knowledge base, and develop business-friendly handoff materials.

• Automate repetitive tasks through repeatable, testable, AI-assisted workflows.

• Work collaboratively with finance, operations, and client-facing teams.

• Support a governed semantic layer for a healthcare payment integrity operation.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in analytics engineering, BI engineering, data engineering, or business analysis, with direct ownership of the developed models and metrics.

• Proficient in SQL with strong instincts for dimensional modeling.

• Experience in production-level dbt, including models, tests, macros, exposures, documentation, and continuous integration.

• Practical experience with a cloud lakehouse or warehouse.

• Preference for Databricks and Spark SQL; transferable skills from Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift are acceptable.

• History of overseeing a BI semantic layer and generating reports.

• Strong preference for Power BI and DAX; alternatives include Looker/LookML, Tableau, MetricFlow, or Cube.

• Capability to engage in requirements discussions with non-technical stakeholders and translate ambiguous feedback into concrete definitions.

• A reconciliation-oriented mindset for resolving discrepancies.

• Proficient in Git and pull-request protocols.

• Skilled in Python for API interactions, file parsing, statistical analysis, and report generation.

• Comfortable operating with high autonomy in a fast-paced, asynchronous, Slack-first environment.

• Strong written communication skills.

• Participation in E-Verify and adherence to applicable employment authorization requirements.

• Bonus: Experience with healthcare data, including claims (837/835/UB04), DRG and coding review, payment integrity, provider contracts, or revenue cycle.

• Bonus: Knowledge of data contracts, schema enforcement, ODCS-style governance, and quality gating within CI.

• Bonus: Familiarity with Databricks Unity Catalog, lineage tracking, and cost/DBU accountability.

• Bonus: Experience in paginated reporting, SharePoint/Excel delivery, or similar business delivery channels.
