This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +29 more states.
• Act as the main communications advisor to the CEO of the Wikimedia Foundation, offering strategic guidance and direct assistance in both internal and external communications.
• Create a thorough engagement strategy for various complex stakeholder groups.
• Collaborate with media relations, internal communications, and the Chief of Staff to develop, shape, and execute a communications strategy for the CEO.
• Aid in external communications for other members of the executive team and the Board of Trustees.
• Identify, cultivate, and implement thought leadership opportunities for the CEO and other executives.
• Prepare and equip leaders for public speaking and media appearances.
• Craft speeches, remarks, talking points, social media content, internal communications, briefing documents, and blog entries.
• Formulate narratives and messaging strategies that enhance awareness and understanding of Wikipedia and Wikimedia initiatives.
• Write and ghostwrite speeches, op-eds, quotes, external statements, blog posts, and emails from the CEO.
• Direct social media strategy for executives across platforms such as LinkedIn and TikTok.
• Seek out earned media opportunities and speaking engagements to enhance the public profile of Foundation leadership.
• Utilize relationships with reporters and conference organizers to identify publication and speaking opportunities.
• Work collaboratively across departments, teams, volunteer communities, and global communication channels.
• Over 10 years of professional experience in communications, including several years of supporting C-level executives.
• Exceptional verbal communication and writing abilities, with the skill to tailor communications for various stakeholders.
• Capability to engage with senior leadership and communicate the work of the Wikimedia Foundation at multiple levels.
• Experience in crisis communications and preparing executives for sensitive or rapidly changing situations.
• Demonstrated ability to pitch stories, engage with the press, and manage key relationships effectively.
• Background in working with reporters, staffing media interviews, and shaping articles.
• Proficiency in developing social media strategies tailored for platforms like LinkedIn and TikTok.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Experience in maintaining systems and documentation for projects involving multiple stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel as necessary, potentially 3–5 times per year, and work across different time zones.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues who may not have English as their primary language.
• Preference for candidates located in the Eastern Time zone.
• Preference for candidates with involvement in the Wikimedia community or experience editing Wikimedia projects.
• Non-US applicants must possess current work authorization in their respective locations.
• Salary adjusted based on the country of hire for applicants outside the US.
