This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Act as the technical lead and head of the Data Platform Engineering team within the Data Excellence & AI Foundations organization.
• Develop, architect, and enhance Avery Dennison's enterprise 10-Layer Data & AI Operating System.
• Spearhead the shift from traditional ETL pipelines to a high-code Platform Engineering methodology utilizing GitOps, Data-as-Code, declarative management, and automated metadata control planes.
• Oversee the global architectural blueprint and technology decision frameworks for enterprise analytics and AI platforms.
• Design the 10-Layer Modern Data Operating System across OCI, GCP, and Azure platforms.
• Create and implement a centralized Metadata Control Plane and automated Data Catalog.
• Manage schema tracking, lineage graphs, data quality observability, GitOps practices, reusable developer toolkits, and context-as-code for LLM reasoning.
• Establish and regulate enterprise AI infrastructure standards for Vector Databases, Knowledge Graphs, Feature Stores, and RAG pipelines.
• Provide support for corporate Gemini LLM solutions and autonomous AI agents with reliable verification mechanisms.
• Design and enforce the Universal Security Model incorporating ABAC, fine-grained masking, and Okta/Active Directory integration.
• Implement SRE-style observability to monitor platform health, latency, query performance, and computational costs.
• Lead the Data Platform Engineering team.
• Mentor and guide technical talent across pipeline, data, analytics, AI/LLM, DevOps, and APEX engineering disciplines.
• Collaborate with HR to develop technical career progression paths and competency matrices.
• Present intricate architectural blueprints to executive sponsors.
• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Over 10 years of experience in enterprise data architecture, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure design.
• More than 3 years of experience leading technical teams in a global enterprise setting.
• Expert-level proficiency in OCI, GCP, and Azure.
• Advanced knowledge of Oracle ADW 23c/26ai, Databricks, and Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake.
• Mastery of high-code data engineering in Python, SQL, Apache Airflow, Kafka/Confluent streaming, CDC/GoldenGate, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and GitOps CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
• Experience in designing enterprise AI/ML infrastructure, including Vector DBs, Knowledge Graphs, Feature Stores, RAG pipelines, and enterprise LLM integrations with Gemini.
• Proven experience in establishing Universal Security Models, including ABAC, RLS, and Okta/Active Directory.
• Demonstrated success in mentoring technical talent.
• Strong strategic leadership and communication abilities.
• Experience in presenting complex architectural designs to VP/CIO-level executive sponsors.
• Successful completion of a thorough background check and drug screening is required as a condition of employment.
