Principal Engineer – Substation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Oversee designated substation projects from initial concept through to construction and commissioning.

• Assist in the development of engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group during the early stages.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and secure substation locations, as well as gather engineering updates, data, and permits.

• Provide training, conduct due diligence, and offer technical supervision for external engineers of record.

• Ensure adherence to interconnection agreements, scope documents, specifications, site-specific requirements, and industry standards throughout the project.

• Work in conjunction with other teams to ensure the successful execution of E&C substation projects.

• Represent both internal and external project interests during management meetings, presenting updates on project progress, challenges, and risk mitigation strategies.

• Assist Transmission Services in the review of interconnection documentation, ensuring that ISO and Transmission Owner requirements are integrated into project designs.

• Aid ISC in the creation, review, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials related to substation project SOW.

• Report directly to the onsite Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.

• A minimum of 7 years' experience in the design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects is advantageous.

• Experience in Project Engineering or Project Management, with a PMP or P.E. in a related field, is beneficial.

• Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and other relevant industry codes and standards.

• Experience with generation interconnection agreements, project specifications, and site-specific design requirements.

• Background in reviewing system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies, and interconnection agreements.

• Willingness to travel within North America.

• Must comply with applicable United States and relevant foreign export control regulations.
