Principal Engineer – Overhead Transmission Line

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Act as a subject matter expert in the design of transmission lines, construction methodologies, and new industry technologies.

• Offer technical support and quality assurance evaluations for engineering outputs, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.

• Serve as Engineer of Record when necessary, providing final technical endorsement for engineering outputs.

• Design overhead transmission lines within the voltage range of 69kV to 500kV.

• Conduct structural analysis, design, and foundation assessments.

• Prepare and evaluate technical specifications and drawings.

• Execute engineering analyses and simulations for transmission line design.

• Mentor and guide junior engineers and team members.

• Carry out independent reviews of work produced by others, encompassing calculations, drawings, specifications, and transmission line models.

• Offer assistance to the project team during the construction and installation phases.

• Collaborate with fellow engineers and project managers to achieve project objectives.

• Ensure adherence to relevant codes, standards, and regulations.

• Perform fieldwork as necessary to facilitate design, construction, and commissioning activities.

• Engage with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.

• Take part in project meetings and provide required technical support.

• Review vendor submissions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or a related discipline) from an ABET-accredited institution.

• Over 15 years of experience in the design of overhead transmission lines.

• Possession of a PE license is mandatory.

• Proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, MFAD, or similar software.

• Comprehensive understanding of industry codes and standards such as NESC, ASCE, ACI, RUS, IEC, and IEEE.

• Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively articulate technical recommendations to clients.

• Proven ability to analyze complex issues and formulate effective solutions at both strategic and operational levels.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting, with a keen attention to detail.

• Commitment to promoting learning and professional development through mentorship, training, and nurturing the next generation of engineers.

• Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.

• Must hold a valid driver's license.
