Principal Engineer – Graph, API

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Define and take ownership of the API and graph architecture strategy for Servicing Digital.

• Design and manage the abstraction layer that separates client-facing experiences from underlying systems.

• Set API design standards, schema governance practices, and developer agreements that can scale across various product teams.

• Lead technology adoption in areas such as GraphQL, schema federation, REST, and event-driven integration patterns.

• Develop and maintain tools for the API platform, documentation standards, and infrastructure to enhance developer experience.

• Integrate and promote AI-assisted tools throughout the API development lifecycle.

• Mentor engineers and technical leads, advancing the craft of graph and API development across the organization.

• Represent Servicing Digital's API strategy in architecture reviews, executive discussions, and cross-vertical technical forums.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Over 12 years of experience in professional software engineering and architecture roles.

• Proven experience in leading API or graph platform strategy at an enterprise level.

• Advanced knowledge of GraphQL, schema federation, API design and governance, REST, and event-driven integration patterns.

• Demonstrated ability to design abstraction layers that protect consumer experiences from changes in backend systems.

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and AWS-native service patterns pertinent to API and graph infrastructure.

• A successful history of establishing API standards and governance that are scalable across multiple teams and domains.

• Exceptional communication skills in engineering design reviews and executive-level architecture discussions.
