Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership for a global application portfolio that enhances business growth and operational efficiency.

• Establish the technical direction for the Strategic Growth application portfolio.

• Convert business priorities into scalable, secure, and resilient solutions.

• Lead the transformation of mainframe engineering and delivery practices.

• Collaborate with product, architecture, and cross-ART teams to design solutions and deliver intricate business capabilities.

• Decompose complex problems into clear, actionable steps.

• Maintain a strong emphasis on product quality, security, and operational excellence.

• Influence architectural decisions and engineering standards across various teams.

• Balance immediate delivery needs with the health of long-term platforms.

• Mentor engineers and cultivate technical talent.

• Promote accountability, continuous learning, and ongoing improvement.

• Ensure production stability through effective incident, change, and problem-management practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience in a relevant technical field.

• Significant experience with COBOL, IMS, DB2, CICS, and JCL.

• Proven track record in defining technical strategy and guiding technical direction.

• Experience in influencing cross-functional teams and achieving complex business or platform outcomes.

• Proficient in designing, building, and supporting scalable, high-performance applications.

• Capability to lead, coach, mentor, and influence geographically dispersed engineering teams.

• Experience in setting clear expectations, fostering accountability, and supporting engineers across various levels.

• Strong understanding of agile delivery methodologies and a demonstrated agile mindset.

• Commitment to continuous improvement and learning.

• Familiarity with incident and change management principles and best practices.

• Exposure to and experience in mainframe modernization practices.

• Knowledge and experience with DevSecOps practices.

• SAFe Agile certification is preferred.

• Experience working across a diverse application portfolio is preferred.
