Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead technical analysis for power electronic systems and control related to renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives, and FACTS.

• Develop customer projects while managing contracts to meet technical, scheduling, and budgetary goals.

• Identify and nurture new customer relationships and business opportunities.

• Oversee proposal preparation and create impactful presentations for customers.

• Direct GE NPI/NTI initiatives focused on inverter-based resources.

• Organize and lead project teams, ensuring that contributors deliver high-quality results on time and within budget.

• Provide power systems engineering expertise to customers, including EMT modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis.

• Conduct and supervise load flow, stability, fault, transient, and detailed equipment modeling studies.

• Assist in the development of generation, transmission, and distribution products in accordance with evolving codes and standards.

• Engage in industry standards organizations and spearhead innovative power system analysis methodologies.

• Create thorough written reports and presentations that communicate analyses, solutions, and the value propositions for customers.

• Deliver technical content at regional forums and conferences, establishing oneself as an industry thought leader.

• Mentor and train engineers in steady-state and dynamic power system analysis, SSR analysis, control system modeling and tuning, as well as project execution and management.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

• At least 10 years of industry experience in power electronics equipment design, control, and power system analysis.

• Minimum of 5 years demonstrating experience in supporting intellectual property through critical patent filings.

• A minimum of 6 patents filed as an author and/or co-author.

• Experience in supporting the technical aspects of intellectual property clearance for new products.

• Proven experience leading GE NPI/NTI activities on inverter-based resources control design and performance verification, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

• Experience in performing and leading converter performance verification for wind products, including control design, equipment modeling, and requirements definition for wind turbine generator converter NPI teams.

• Experience in conducting and leading complex grid interaction studies for wind plants.

• Experience in developing and designing software and/or hardware solutions to address grid interaction challenges.

• Proven ability in modeling and tuning renewable power generation control systems using EMT tools like PSCAD or WindTRAP.

• Experience in creating control solutions for grid compliance using embedded solutions such as Mark VIE and C++.

• Experience with hardware/instrumentation, power hardware in the loop, and simulations for the analysis and troubleshooting of inverter-based resource performance.

• Experience in designing power electronics converters for wind application systems.

• Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink, PSCAD, and RTDS.

• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, FORTRAN, C++, and MATLAB/Simulink.

• Experience with software version control tools like TortoiseHg and TortoiseSVN.

• Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering principles to real-world electric power system issues.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, capable of engaging with both internal stakeholders and external customers/plant personnel.

• Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Successful completion of a drug screening, as applicable.
