Principal Embedded Engineer – Zephyr, Yocto

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Design and implement a multi-sensor perception and sensor-fusion system for a drone early-warning system that incorporates a learning map architecture.

• Take ownership of the architecture across the entire technology stack of the devices.

• Foster collaboration among hardware, platform, and AI teams regarding architectural decisions.

• Integrate software across various hardware devices utilizing Yocto, Bash, Zephyr, and C/C++.

• Work closely with Sensor Fusion, MLOps, and DevOps Engineers to facilitate rapid and secure deployments.

• Oversee system monitoring, troubleshoot incidents, and enhance observability continuously.

• Optionally assist with on-site operations, gather sensor data, and validate technology during controlled field trials.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess citizenship of an EU member state.

• Official residency in an EU country is required.

• A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in IT is required; ideally, 15–20 years.

• At least 5 years of full-time professional experience as an Embedded Engineer is expected; ideally, 10–15 years.

• Must have expert-level knowledge of Embedded Linux and Yocto.

• A minimum of 3 years of full-time professional experience with a production-grade Real-Time Operating System, especially Zephyr, is required.

• At least 2 years of professional experience in IoT is needed.

• Proficiency in C/C++ is mandatory.

• Must have at least 2 consecutive years of employment with the same employer.

• Fluent English is essential.

• A willingness and interest in working within the defense sector is necessary.

• Must be willing to work exclusively in an operational, hands-on role—not in management—for a duration of 3–5 years.

• Experience with fleet data, Bash, Golang, MLOps, EdgeML, and DevOps is advantageous.

• Initial experience with cloud services such as GCP, AWS, or Azure is a plus.

• Willingness to travel to Berlin for field trials 2–3 days per month is beneficial.

• Knowledge of Embedded Linux, Yocto Project, ROS2, Sensor Fusion, PCB Design, Robotics, Hardware-Software Co-Design, OTA Updates, TCP/IP, SDR, Computer Vision, CAD, Embedded Systems, Microcontrollers, RTOS, Firmware Development, SPI, I2C, CAN bus, Edge AI, Git, Linux Kernel, HIL, SIL, GNU Toolchain, Zephyr, and FreeRTOS is required.
