Principal Ecologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Zealand.

📋 Description

• Deliver specialized ecological guidance on significant infrastructure, renewable energy, water sector, and environmental initiatives.

• Provide technical leadership across a varied portfolio of ecological projects.

• Direct assessment methodologies and evaluate technical deliverables.

• Maintain high standards of quality in all ecological endeavors.

• Serve as a reliable advisor to clients, project teams, and stakeholders.

• Offer comprehensive ecological insights and assist in fostering sustainable outcomes.

• Lead and participate in strategic pursuits, proposals, and tenders.

• Cultivate relationships with clients, regulators, iwi, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.

• Collaborate with Beca specialists to create integrated scientific, engineering, and environmental solutions.

• Enhance cooperation with the Australian Ecology team.

• Advocate for technical excellence in biodiversity policy, legislation, and industry best practices.

• Contribute to the growth and reputation of Beca's ecology practice.

• Mentor team members and assist in developing the next generation of ecologists.

⛳️ Requirements

• Degree-qualified ecology professional.

• Extensive consulting experience.

• Established technical expertise in terrestrial and/or freshwater ecology.

• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects and ecological assessments.

• Comprehensive understanding of New Zealand environmental legislation, policy, and regulatory frameworks.

• Strong analytical skills, sound technical judgement, and practical problem-solving abilities.

• Experience in providing technical leadership, peer review, and quality assurance.

• Capability to mentor others, enhance capacity, and promote technical excellence.

• Well-established professional network.

• Ability to cultivate trusted client relationships, secure work, and contribute to the growth of ecology services.

• NZ working rights.

• Valid driver's licence.

• CEnvP Ecology Specialist accreditation or progress towards it is preferred.

• Experience with hearings, Board of Inquiry, or Environment Court is advantageous.

• Specialized knowledge in freshwater ecology, ornithology, and/or botany is highly regarded.
