Principal Data Scientist – Rentals Shopping

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +16 more states.

📋 Description

• Act as the data science leader for Zillow’s Rentals Shopping division.

• Develop and implement a long-term data strategy by analyzing consumer behavior and market trends.

• Discover significant growth opportunities and contribute to the product roadmap.

• Enhance statistical rigor, modeling, and experimentation practices within Rentals.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, and design leaders to translate analyses into product and business strategies.

• Oversee analytical and modeling efforts related to rental search relevance, ranking, personalization, and marketplace efficiency.

• Create and manage A/B testing and experimentation frameworks.

• Utilize modern AI technologies, including LLMs and agentic workflows, to enhance data science efficiency, model quality, and user-facing solutions.

• Mentor and coach data scientists.

• Impact how renters search for, assess, and connect with rental properties while supporting the growth of Zillow’s Rentals business.

⛳️ Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Generally, 8+ years of experience in quantitative analysis, advanced modeling, and large-scale experimentation in consumer-facing technology settings.

• Exceptional proficiency in SQL and Python.

• Familiarity with statistical modeling techniques, including causal inference and time series analysis.

• Experience working within big data environments like Databricks or Snowflake.

• Demonstrated success in shaping long-term product roadmaps and achieving business outcomes through data-driven insights.

• Capability to influence senior cross-functional leaders and deliver executive-ready recommendations and action plans.
