Principal Architect – Data Centers

📋 Description

• Supervise staffing assignments and assemble project teams to ensure successful execution.

• Direct studio business operations, focusing on team development, financial performance, and overall health.

• Generate new client relationships and revenue annually to meet a top-line revenue goal.

• Maintain accountability for project team performance, design, delivery of contracted work, and management of internal and external resources.

• Collaborate with market leaders to establish strategic direction that aligns with firm-wide objectives and annual business plans.

• Oversee the implementation of a consistent Rhythm-of-Business within the studio.

• Ensure design work is in line with project budgets and client objectives.

• Lead strategic initiatives across the firm, including annual business planning.

• Promote cross-market collaboration and the growth of regional design practices.

• Assess risks and develop strategies for risk mitigation.

• Direct project proposals, responses to RFPs, and business development efforts.

• Create and manage the studio's annual operational budget.

• Cultivate client relationships and identify opportunities for growth.

• Collaborate on the acceptance of new work and strategic pursuits.

• Engage in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processes.

• Evaluate team performance, provide feedback, and oversee goal setting and performance evaluations.

• Collaborate with firm leaders and strategic partners to promote continuous improvement.

• Act as a subject-matter expert and resource for the firm.

• Manage conflict, implement change, and facilitate challenging conversations.

• Support internal Learning and Development initiatives.

• Ensure quality of deliverables, client service, and financial performance across regional offices and studio groups.

• Make strategic decisions regarding staffing, business operations, and resource management.

• Prioritize internal initiatives alongside billable work.

• Foster a safe, comfortable, and equitable work environment.

• Participate in external community and philanthropic activities.

• Contribute to staffing adjustments, promotions, and strategic team building efforts.

• Support the professional growth of individuals and project teams.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture or a related field.

• Over 15 years of experience in a professional architecture or design firm.

• Certification as a licensed professional is preferred.

• Proven success in leading large-scale business operations and managing studio-wide financials.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead diverse studio groups while executing both tactical and strategic planning.

• Prior experience in developing and implementing large-scale strategic initiatives.

• Proven track record in business development, including pursuing growth opportunities and contributing to project proposals, RFP responses, and statements of qualifications.

• Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to foster collaborative team environments.

• Ability to manage staffing resources across internal markets and multiple teams, including those in different locations.

• Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.

• Previous involvement in organizational planning for future states.

• Demonstrated capability to navigate conflict while managing through change.
