• Define and uphold Marathon Health’s enterprise architecture strategy, roadmap, standards, and design principles across cloud, data, integration, and application layers.

• Lead the solution design process across various product and engineering teams, ensuring compliance with architectural standards, scalability requirements, and healthcare regulations.

• Collaborate with Engineering leaders to assess architecture proposals, facilitate technical decisions across teams, address architectural trade-offs, and ensure designs meet established standards, scalability needs, and healthcare compliance obligations.

• Personally execute high-impact technical initiatives, such as reference implementations, complex cross-system integrations, and architecturally significant proofs-of-concept to validate strategic initiatives prior to large-scale commitments.

• Spearhead the modernization of legacy systems in collaboration with Technology and Product leadership, balancing the reduction of technical debt, delivery commitments, support burdens, operational risks, and team capacity.

• Oversee the architecture and governance of Marathon’s AI and machine learning capabilities, which includes agentic AI systems, LLM integrations, and clinical decision support tools.

• Manage the enterprise data architecture strategy, covering data modeling, lakehouse design, and governance frameworks on Snowflake and cloud-native platforms.

• Design and govern real-time and near-real-time integration architectures utilizing HL7 FHIR, event-driven patterns, API gateways, and messaging platforms.

• Act as a player-coach technical leader, engaging in technical planning, design reviews, implementation trade-offs, code and architecture reviews, proofs-of-concept, and reference implementations alongside Technology teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, accompanied by 10+ years of progressive experience in software or enterprise architecture, including at least 5 years in a senior or principal architect role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Proven capability to function as both a strategic architect and a hands-on technical contributor, with a history of effective collaboration with technology leaders and delivery teams in complex environments.

• Demonstrated experience in healthcare technology, specifically involving health plan data, payer/provider integration, or population health platforms.

• Extensive expertise in data architecture on cloud-native platforms (Snowflake preferred), with experience in data lakehouse patterns, data modeling, and governance.

• Significant hands-on experience with real-time and event-driven integration architecture (Kafka, event streaming, API-first design, HL7 FHIR).

• Proven ability to lead and govern AI/ML architecture in production settings, including LLM-based systems, agentic workflows, and responsible AI frameworks.

• Experience in modernizing legacy systems at scale, encompassing both technical execution and organizational change management.

• Practical expertise across a modern engineering stack, including cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), cloud-native architecture patterns (microservices, serverless, event-driven systems), containers and Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, or GKE) or similar orchestrators, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar), CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar), production-grade observability tools, and strong production proficiency in at least one of .NET, Python, or TypeScript, with working fluency in the others.

• Strong foundation in security, compliance, and regulatory architecture relevant to healthcare (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2).

• Experience working at an employer-sponsored or value-based care organization (e.g., advanced primary care, near-site/on-site health).

• Hands-on experience with Athena Health EHR, Salesforce Health Cloud, or comparable healthcare CRM/EHR ecosystems.

• Familiarity with Snowflake Cortex, dbt, or other modern data transformation and AI/analytics tools.

• Previous experience building or advising on health plan channel partnerships, including with Anthem, Aetna, Centivo, or similar commercial payers.

• Experience in a PE-backed, high-growth healthcare technology setting.

• Track record of contributing to AI strategy at an organizational level, including communication with board or executive leadership.
