Practice Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.

📋 Description

• Oversee the growth, operational efficiency, delivery execution, workforce management, and leadership of the AWS Platform Services customer execution team.

• Direct Platform Architects, engineers, consultants, and delivery leads in executing AWS transformation initiatives.

• Convert AWS practice strategy and growth objectives into plans for workforce, capabilities, delivery, and investments.

• Develop a scalable operating model encompassing AWS migration, modernization, cloud foundations, platform engineering, security, application modernization, data, AI, and managed cloud services.

• Establish a structured operating rhythm for pipeline transparency, staffing, utilization, delivery health, capability enhancement, and internal priorities.

• Make decisions regarding workforce allocation and manage project demand, roll-offs, bench status, skill availability, and capacity limitations.

• Formulate plans for team members on the bench, focusing on placement, billable enablement, certifications, internal assignments, and skill enhancement.

• Ensure portfolio operating health through delivery governance, project evaluations, recovery actions, and follow-through.

• Track scope, schedule, quality, customer satisfaction, profit margins, utilization, and delivery risks.

• Collaborate with technical and delivery leaders on health assessments, architecture validation, strategic program oversight, and recovery of at-risk projects.

• Provide direct leadership including goal setting, one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, coaching, feedback, recognition, and corrective measures.

• Cultivate team leads and senior contributors while creating career development strategies.

• Manage certification planning and tracking.

• Spearhead hiring, onboarding, succession planning, retention, and performance evaluations.

• Analyze statements of work, staffing models, effort assumptions, timelines, dependencies, delivery feasibility, and associated risks.

• Enhance solution-to-delivery transitions through documented assumptions, acceptance criteria, and early engagement with delivery teams.

• Provide both technical and practice leadership across AWS platform services.

• Advocate for the AWS Well-Architected Framework, security-by-design principles, infrastructure as code, automation, operational readiness, and cost-effective architecture.

• Represent the practice in discussions with customers, partners, sales, and internal leadership.

• Extensive experience leading cloud consulting, professional services, or technology delivery organizations, with direct responsibility for people management.

• Proven experience managing AWS-focused teams that deliver intricate customer transformation initiatives.

• Strong architectural expertise across a wide range of AWS platform services.

• Demonstrated success in managing workforce allocation, utilization, bench status, capacity planning, hiring, performance, and talent development within a consulting framework.

• Experience overseeing delivery portfolios and enhancing execution across dimensions such as scope, schedule, quality, financial performance, and customer results.

• Background in reviewing or creating statements of work, delivery estimates, staffing models, assumptions, dependencies, and risk provisions.

• Capability to operate across technical, commercial, delivery, and people leadership areas.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in conveying risks, priorities, and decisions to executives, customers, AWS, and delivery teams.

• AWS Associate level certifications; fundamental AWS certifications are essential.

• Prior experience in a technical role at some stage in their career.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience (preferred).

• AWS Certified Professional or similar advanced AWS certification is preferred; additional AWS specialty or professional certifications are advantageous.

• Familiarity with AWS partner programs, competencies, funding mechanisms, opportunity management, or co-sell initiatives is preferred.

• Experience in building or scaling practices that encompass cloud foundations, platform engineering, security, migration, application modernization, data, AI, and cloud operations is preferred.

• Experience leading distributed or geographically dispersed consulting teams is preferred.

• Background in working with enterprise or regulated-industry clients and complex multi-workstream programs is preferred.
