Postdoctoral University Assistant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Austria.

📋 Description

• Conduct research and provide instruction in general sociology as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and globally connected team.

• Further enhance an independent research profile focusing on transition studies, class transitions, social inequality, theories of practice and subjectivation, chrononormativity, or care within the educational framework.

• Engage in empirical social research projects and academic investigations.

• Integrate narrative and linguistic data, observational findings, field notes, autobiographical documents, and artefacts.

• Utilize expertise in mixed-methods research projects.

• Publish findings in prestigious academic journals and present research on an international stage.

• Independently teach BA and MA level courses.

• Contribute to evaluation processes and quality assurance measures.

• Execute administrative responsibilities related to research and teaching.

• Actively participate in the General Sociology research team under the leadership of Professor Anna Wanka.

⛳️ Requirements

• Completed doctoral/PhD studies in sociology, educational sciences, or a related field.

• Exceptional dissertation in transition research with an emphasis on youth/young adulthood, the education system/higher education, social inequality/social mobility, and especially first-generation academics.

• Strong professional skills and an interest in care and caring relationships within educational settings.

• Extensive knowledge of reconstructive methods, particularly biographical-narrative interviews and their evaluation, as well as (auto-)biographical text analysis.

• Experience in combining multi-method approaches and collaboration in mixed-methods projects.

• Solid theoretical understanding of practical and subjectivation theories, including works by Bourdieu and Butler.

• International publications in peer-reviewed journals.

• Experience in editing anthologies and special issues.

• Involvement in or collaboration on acquiring external funding.

• Teaching experience in topics related to social inequality/social class and intersectionality, as well as qualitative survey and evaluation methods.

• Experience working in interdisciplinary and international teams.

• Proven ability to conceive, plan, and execute scientific events on both national and international levels.

• Experience in science communication and outreach activities, including podcasts and social media engagement.

• Proficient in German and English at C1 level.

• A collaborative team player with strong social and communication skills.
