Platform Engineer – Kubernetes/AWS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage Kubernetes clusters on AWS (Amazon EKS), including tasks such as upgrades, scaling, networking, and ingress management.

• Provision and oversee infrastructure as code utilizing Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and Helm across development, testing, and production environments.

• Create and sustain CI/CD and GitOps pipelines using tools like GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Argo CD, ensuring automated testing and security scanning.

• Implement AWS security measures, including least-privilege IAM, network segmentation, KMS encryption, secrets management, and centralized logging.

• Strengthen clusters and container images to comply with DISA STIGs and CIS Benchmarks.

• Manage RBAC, image scanning, and admission policies through OPA Gatekeeper or Kyverno.

• Automate routine operations with Python, Bash, and Ansible to minimize manual tasks and accelerate deployment lead times.

• Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.

• Lead incident response efforts and conduct root cause analysis.

• Assist in application migrations and modernization to the platform.

• Collaborate with development teams on containerization initiatives.

• Create documentation, runbooks, and contributions to system security plans and Authority to Operate (ATO) packages.

• Work alongside application developers, database administrators, and cybersecurity personnel.

• Develop and manage container platforms that support CBP and Department of State mission applications.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• For CBP positions: ability to obtain and maintain a CBP Public Trust background investigation.

• For Department of State positions: active Secret clearance is necessary.

• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in platform, DevOps, cloud, or systems engineering roles.

• At least three (3) years of experience in running Kubernetes in a production environment.

• Practical experience with AWS, including EKS, IAM, VPC networking, and AWS security services.

• Experience with infrastructure as code, specifically using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

• Proven track record in building CI/CD pipelines and engaging in Git-based workflows.

• Proficient in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.

• Familiarity with applying NIST SP 800-53 controls in cloud settings.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Capacity to work remotely adhering to East Coast hours.

• Willingness to travel approximately once per quarter.

• Desired qualifications: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS).

• Desired qualifications: AWS certification such as Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer Professional, or Security Specialty.

• Desired experience with AWS GovCloud (US), FedRAMP, and agency ATO processes.

• Desired exposure to service mesh (Istio) and GitOps tools (Argo CD or Flux).

• Desired experience supporting DHS/CBP or Department of State Consular Affairs systems.

• For CBP positions: current DHS Public Trust is preferred.
