Platform – DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hungary.

📋 Description

• Implement and deploy a self-hosted Renovate environment, encompassing containers, workers, and job orchestration.

• Automate the discovery and onboarding of repositories across tens of thousands of GitLab repositories utilizing the GitLab API.

• Develop and maintain centralized, version-controlled Renovate configuration presets while enabling customization at the repository level.

• Establish and oversee monitoring, logging, alerting, and reporting dashboards that track repository coverage, update throughput, and error rates.

• Enhance system performance through techniques such as parallelization, caching, rate-limit management, and robust error handling.

• Integrate artifact and container registries with secure credential and secrets management solutions.

• Automate and streamline operational processes to maintain stable and reliable daily operations.

• Prepare operational documentation and runbooks, providing technical support to development teams throughout the rollout process.

• Assist with the phased implementation of the solution, from pilot execution to full-scale adoption.

• Participate in IT consulting and service projects for international clients, delivering innovative IT solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional experience as a DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, Automation Engineer, or in a comparable role.

• In-depth knowledge of GitLab CI/CD with practical experience utilizing the GitLab API.

• Hands-on experience with containers, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code tools, such as OpenTofu and Helm.

• Proficient scripting or programming skills in Bash, Python, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript.

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability solutions, preferably New Relic.

• Understanding of secrets management solutions like Vault.

• Experience working with package and container registries.

• Practical knowledge of Renovate and automated dependency management.

• Strong automation mindset with a focus on scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.

• Ability to work independently in a structured and solution-oriented way.

• Proficient English communication skills.

• Experience operating Renovate at a large scale, particularly across thousands or tens of thousands of repositories.

• Background in designing highly scalable GitLab-based platform solutions.

• Familiarity with GitLab Runner, distributed workers, job scheduling, or similar orchestration technologies.

• Experience with GitLab API automation and extensive repository onboarding.

• Knowledge of dependency management and software supply-chain security.

• Experience with CVE-driven security updates and automated vulnerability remediation.

• Familiarity with additional secrets management, artifact management, or container registry technologies.

• Experience designing observability dashboards and operational KPIs for platform environments.

• Experience in large enterprise or multinational environments.
