PGCE Assessor – Teaching Practice

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Evaluate Teaching Practice portfolios, reports, lesson plans, reflective activities, and supporting documentation for academic quality and alignment with program outcomes.

• Ensure that assessments conform to institutional standards, curriculum expectations, approved criteria, and NQF guidelines.

• Review student submissions to guarantee that assessment decisions are valid, reliable, equitable, consistent, and academically sound.

• Offer constructive academic feedback to students in line with approved rubrics and assessment protocols.

• Confirm that Teaching Practice evidence illustrates the effective application of pedagogical knowledge within school-based learning settings.

• Validate academic coherence, reflective practice, lesson planning, and suitable pedagogical strategies in the submitted evidence.

• Collaborate with program coordinators and academic teams throughout the Teaching Practice assessment process.

• Ensure adherence to quality assurance, academic integrity, and regulatory standards.

• Adhere to assessment deadlines and accomplish necessary revisions or reassessments when required.

⛳️ Requirements

• A master’s degree in Education, Teacher Education, Curriculum Studies, or a relevant specialization (essential).

• Minimum of two years’ experience in higher education, teacher education, Teaching Practice, assessment, curriculum design, or academic reviewing.

• Proven experience in assessing, marking, moderating, or reviewing academic work or Teaching Practice evidence.

• Experience in distance or online education is advantageous.

• Familiarity with South African higher education quality assurance frameworks.

• Computer literacy with access to a reliable internet connection and a laptop/desktop.

• Strong subject matter expertise in teacher education, Teaching Practice, and relevant pedagogical methodologies.

• Exceptional academic assessment, writing, reviewing, and feedback skills.

• Understanding of curriculum, assessment practices, and Work-Integrated Learning in higher education.

• Knowledge of South African educational contexts and frameworks for school-based teaching practice.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance principles.

• Capability to work independently and meet strict assessment deadlines.

• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

• Proficiency in digital platforms and online learning environments.
