This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
• Execute the complete native Portuguese payroll cycle in-house with precision, compliance, and punctuality.
• Process and validate payroll master data, encompassing hires, terminations, salary adjustments, variable pay, benefits, absences, and garnishments.
• Conduct pre- and post-payroll validations and identify issues prior to them reaching employees, customers, or Finance.
• Manage monthly IRS withholding declarations, DMR filings to Segurança Social, annual Modelo 10 submissions, and reimbursement claims.
• Retrieve and maintain employee IRS withholding codes and assist with the setup and maintenance of government access.
• Adhere to payroll system procedures and test legislative updates as instructed.
• Utilize knowledge of Portuguese tax, social security, labor law, and collective agreements.
• Review payroll journals and GL mappings against outputs and flag any data integrity concerns.
• Address assigned client payroll tickets and escalate issues that exceed your scope.
• Generate statutory and ad-hoc reports, including those for the EU Pay Transparency Directive, Comissão de Trabalhadores pay assessments, and RGPD/GDPR compliance documentation.
• Provide data and documentation for both internal and external audits.
• Follow and enhance SOPs, disseminate knowledge, and maintain playbooks and knowledge-base documentation.
• 1–3 years of experience managing native, in-house payroll processes for Portugal.
• Capable of independently processing a defined volume of payslips each month.
• Practical experience with Portuguese payroll software such as Cegid (Primavera or PHC) and/or Sendys.
• Possession of a recognized accounting/payroll qualification and/or a dedicated payroll processing certification.
• Familiarity with Portuguese wage tax, social insurance, and labor law.
• Proficient in Portuguese at C1/C2 level and fluent in English.
• Ability to manage assigned client inquiries and escalate issues that fall outside your scope.
• Meticulous, detail-oriented approach with rigorous self-checking.
• Competence in navigating ambiguity and escalating out-of-scope issues.
• Eagerness to share knowledge and assist less experienced colleagues.
• Comfortable working primarily asynchronously in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
