This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.
• Develop, assess, and recommend audits as well as initiatives for optimizing daily payroll functions.
• Act as a subject matter expert and provide guidance to the payroll team regarding process modifications.
• Address payroll inquiries from the field while ensuring all deadlines are met.
• Investigate company policies and tools to deliver accurate and timely responses.
• Support bi-weekly payroll processing and assist with special projects.
• Uphold the confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Conduct internal audits across Payroll, HR-OPS, and Benefits departments.
• Collaborate with vendors to guarantee that requested tasks are carried out accurately and promptly.
• Analyze and address complex payroll issues, authorizing policy exceptions within established limits.
• Formulate procedures and policies for payroll operations while coordinating approved system modifications.
• Revise relevant policy and procedure manuals.
• Execute root-cause analysis and spearhead process enhancement initiatives.
• Offer guidance to colleagues and management on intricate Payroll, Benefits, and HR matters.
• Research and interpret complex technical data.
• Appropriately escalate issues and achieve objectives with minimal oversight.
• Foster trusted relationships with counterparts and key stakeholders.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in processing payroll for multiple entities with over 5,000 employees.
• Alternatively, a combination of relevant experience in Benefits or HRIS and Payroll, totaling at least 5 years, with an employee population exceeding 5,000, may be considered.
• Proficient understanding of payroll principles, practices, regulations, and procedures, including tax, garnishment, and compliance.
• Experience in delivering customer service to both internal and external clients.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Previous experience working with external vendors.
• Effective time management skills, including prioritization, organization, attention to detail, and meeting multiple deadlines.
• Intermediate-level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Proven experience in independently developing strategies to achieve goals and recognizing when escalation is needed.
