Patient Financial Counselor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Educate and support patients in making informed choices regarding payment options and financial arrangements for healthcare services.

• Assess and confirm patient insurance coverage and eligibility for financial assistance programs.

• Oversee financial processes related to scheduling, billing, and collections.

• Communicate with patients and insurance providers via phone or fax.

• Coordinate patient care in collaboration with clinics.

• Accurately document and report payment information in a timely manner.

• Ensure accounts are prepared for billing with sufficient supporting documentation within set time frames.

• Inform patients about payment options and financial assistance available to them.

• Negotiate and devise patient payment arrangements.

• Update patient accounts and balances accordingly.

• Collect patient payments over the phone.

• Review and process forms from patients and insurance companies.

• Adhere to policies and procedures related to financial screening, arrangements, and third-party requests.

⛳️ Requirements

• Requires less than 1 year of relevant experience.

• Minimum acceptable fit for the position, as assessed by the Talent Bullseye assessment; Hanger will conduct the Talent Bullseye assessment as part of the selection procedure.

• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

• Capable of managing multiple responsibilities and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.

• Resourceful and adaptable team player who excels at cultivating trusting relationships with patients, referral sources, and colleagues.

• Basic understanding of HIPAA and other medical insurance regulations and terminology.

• Familiarity with ICD-9, ICD-10, HCPC/CPT, and other coding systems.

• Knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

• Proficient in computer software applications such as MS Word, Excel, and automated billing systems.

• Ability to operate office equipment, including facsimile machines, calculators, postage machines, and copiers.

• Familiarity with general medical terminology.

• Understanding of state, federal, and regional laws regarding collection and reimbursement.

• Maintain an enthusiastic and positive attitude.

• Ability to work independently, demonstrate creativity, and pay attention to detail.

• Proficiency in basic math and accounting skills.
