This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, their families, referring providers, insurance companies, OHSU healthcare professionals, and staff members.
• Manage incoming calls and oversee scheduling, general inquiries, referral status, and care-related questions.
• Coordinate and supervise patient access to clinical services at the Connected Care Center.
• Record telephone interactions, medication refill requests, complaints, and inquiries within the EMR.
• Direct calls to Nurse Triage and appropriately route calls to relevant staff or on-call personnel.
• Process referrals, channel them to clinical departments, and keep referral documentation organized.
• Input and update patient data in Epic and utilize Media Manager for document uploads.
• Maintain clinic templates and manage block schedules in Epic.
• Register and pre-register patients, confirm demographics and insurance coverage, and conduct financial screenings.
• Verify healthcare eligibility, secure managed care authorizations, and follow up on outstanding authorizations.
• Schedule admissions, elective inpatient and day patient reservations, surgical services, and ancillary services.
• Prepare patients for appointments by obtaining records and studies, arranging accommodations, and distributing information packets.
• Ready patients for virtual visits and provide timely appointment reminders.
• Scan and accurately organize documents within patient charts.
• Complete PAS training and competency requirements, ensuring maintenance of role-specific skills.
• Offer PAS system guidance to colleagues and act as a PAS resource.
• Substitute for PAS/R positions within the service area and carry out additional assigned tasks.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office environment, including high-volume direct patient interaction and appointment scheduling, with managed care authorization experience preferred based on position specifics.
• Alternatively, one and a half years of work experience in a high-volume direct public contact role and six months in a medical office setting.
• Comprehensive understanding of PAS policies and procedures.
• Proven advanced skills in PAS and extensive knowledge of integrated care at OHSU.
• Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in word processing, Windows applications, and online scheduling tools.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
• Strong commitment to customer service excellence.
• Proven effectiveness in handling challenging customer interactions.
• Capability to work independently from a remote location.
• Physical ability to lift and carry 25 pounds.
• Preferred: advanced degree.
• Preferred: experience with electronic health records and Epic.
• Preferred: typing speed of 40–50 wpm.
• Preferred: over two years of patient scheduling experience.
• Preferred: more than two years of healthcare experience, ideally in Urology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, GI, or Imaging.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and diagnostic and procedural coding.
• Proficient computer skills with a keen attention to detail.
