Part-Time Veterans Legal Helpline Staff Attorney, Community Partnerships Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Provide high-quality legal advice, counseling, and brief services as a licensed attorney.

• Advocate for veterans, low-income clients, and other marginalized groups with restricted access to legal assistance.

• Manage legal service requests and assess the complexity of clients’ legal issues.

• Evaluate income eligibility and verify applicant eligibility determinations.

• Make referrals for legal and social services for clients who do not qualify.

• Suggest exceptions to financial guidelines to the supervisor when necessary.

• Conduct legal research, provide advice, brief services, confirmation letters, and self-help resources.

• Review documents such as durable powers of attorney and letters of guardianship.

• Determine the necessity for extended legal services and facilitate referrals to both internal and external legal partners.

• Maintain precise client records in Bay Area’s legal case management system.

• Create and update legal advice letters, brief services letters, instructional documents, and other written materials.

• Inform state legislators about the legal needs of veterans and vulnerable populations.

• Present program outcomes and client impact statistics.

• Enhance Helpline visibility within the Florida Legislature and across West Florida through legislative events, community briefings, and advocacy meetings.

• Collaborate with external legal partners to streamline referrals.

• Organize and facilitate on-site reviews with funding partners.


⛳️ Requirements

• Admitted to the Florida Bar and maintaining good standing.

• Minimum of four years of experience as a staff attorney or equivalent practice experience.

• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.

• Proven capability to interview clients to extract essential facts regarding their legal issues.

• Demonstrated capacity to take on significant responsibilities and work efficiently in an independent yet closely monitored environment.

• Readiness to undertake substantial management tasks.

• Experience in general legal practice is preferred.

• Background in legal services is preferred.

• Experience and/or capability to supervise and collaborate closely with others.

• Compassionate understanding of the social, economic, and legal challenges faced by individuals with limited access to legal services.

• Experience in personnel management.

• U.S. Veteran status is preferred.
