This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist with diverse litigation and legal advocacy initiatives aimed at combating authoritarianism.

• Facilitate litigation efforts by overseeing and organizing case files and associated documents.

• Draft and finalize legal memoranda and pleadings.

• Manage court filing processes.

• Play a key role in leading the discovery process.

• Perform research, synthesize results, and compose memoranda, reports, and communications.

• Conduct cite-checking, Bluebooking, fact-checking, proofreading, and aid in drafting court filings, letters, and public documents.

• Interact with clients, opposing counsel, partner organizations, and various external stakeholders.

• Create press releases, social media content, talking points, outreach emails, op-eds, and blog entries.

• Organize call logistics, develop agendas, and write internal communications.

• Oversee litigation components through project management, including work plans, progress monitoring, and feedback collection.

• Establish and maintain information management systems, processes, and tools across impact teams.

• Collaborate with team members and contribute ideas during impact and litigation project brainstorming sessions.

• Suggest projects that promote Protect Democracy’s mission.

• Engage in organization-wide culture-building efforts.

• Travel periodically, which includes attending at least two team retreats each year and potentially longer travel commitments.


⛳️ Requirements

• At least three years of experience in civil litigation filing.

• Proven experience in preparing, finalizing, and submitting pleadings to the court.

• Familiarity with cite checking and Bluebooking of documents.

• Experience in drafting discovery materials and related correspondence.

• Background in preparing administrative documents, including pro hac vice applications.

• Knowledge of federal civil procedure rules and state/local court regulations.

• Experience in case management and litigation administration, particularly in organizing large volumes of documents and case files.

• Strong skills in writing, researching, editing, and proofreading.

• Project management experience, preferably in a legal setting.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.

• Comfort in providing feedback and managing relationships across all levels.

• Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

• Willingness to acquire new research, communication, legal, and policy skills and processes.

• Ability to build collaborative relationships and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

• Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high standards in execution.

• Proficiency in tracking, prioritizing, and balancing various responsibilities.

• Strong dedication to upholding democratic norms and institutions.

• Paralegal certification is preferred but not mandatory.

• Experience with Filevine is preferred but not essential.

• Familiarity with e-Discovery systems such as Everlaw or Relativity is preferred but not required.

• Must possess the ability to work within the United States.

• Authorized to work in the United States.
