This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Provide assistance to 9 Tort Attorneys in the New Jersey Staff Legal offices.
• Operate within a high-volume, paperless insurance defense setting.
• Draft discovery responses, pleadings, motions, affidavits, correspondence, reports, briefs, memorandums, summaries, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, briefs, motions, pleadings, discovery, and other documents utilizing appropriate software.
• Create and edit court documents in accordance with New Jersey court standards.
• Assist attorneys with cases and act as a liaison with clients, claims, local courts, and counsel.
• Maintain a minimum billing requirement of 1100 hours annually.
• Draft pleadings, motions, responses to discovery requests, and focus on targeted discovery activities.
• Provide typing and document filing support to PIP staff as necessary.
• Follow up with clients to gather information and secure discovery verification signatures.
• Communicate with claim partners to obtain necessary information for responding to discovery.
• Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and opposing counsel through phone and email.
• Draft background facts and applicable laws that support discovery motions.
• Compile and organize exhibits and pertinent documents for motions and trials.
• Produce extensive volumes of documents for opposing counsel and experts via links, CDs, and zip drives.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Paralegal in a paperless insurance defense law office or corporate department.
• Paralegal Certification is advantageous but not mandatory.
• A minimum of 1 year of trial preparation experience is preferred, though not required.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to organize large volumes of documents and information during discovery, motion preparation, and trial preparation.
• Experience in a high-volume litigation environment.
• Familiarity with document production, discovery preparation, Outlook calendar management, and client data maintenance.
• Strong understanding of the New Jersey court systems.
• Exceptional multi-tasking, organizational, and time management abilities.
• Proficient in case management software.
• Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint).
• Capability to meet productivity goals in a fast-paced, team-oriented atmosphere.
• Excellent organizational skills, particularly in prioritizing tasks for multiple attorneys.
• Ability to manipulate electronic documents in formats such as TIF, PDF, and JPG.
• For the 100% remote position, a high-speed broadband cable internet connection with minimum upload/download speeds of 3Mbps/30Mbps is required.
• The internet provider-supplied device must be hardwired to the Hartford-issued router and/or computer.
