Paleontologist – On-Call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Become a part of AECOM's U.S. West Rockies Environmental Planning and Permitting team as a skilled on-call paleontologist.

• Execute paleontological fieldwork and field monitoring tasks.

• Provide taxonomic classification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils down to genus or species level.

• Craft clear and concise technical reports while engaging in research and managing data.

• Oversee the field recovery of fossil specimens.

• Travel and conduct fieldwork across the Western U.S.

• Collaborate with team members, supervisors, clients, and AECOM's global technical practice network.

• Engage in environmental planning and permitting projects that tackle intricate environmental issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related discipline such as geology or biology.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent experience and/or education with a focus on paleontological fieldwork and technical reporting.

• Experience in paleontological fieldwork within the Western U.S.

• Proficiency in providing taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils to genus or species level.

• Expertise in conducting field monitoring operations.

• Strong skills in concise writing, research, and data management.

• Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork throughout the Western U.S.

• Capability to walk or trek over uneven terrain and long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended durations.

• A valid U.S. driver's license is mandatory.

• Ability to travel safely to job sites.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.

• An M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology or a related field is preferred.

• Over 6 years of relevant paleontology experience is preferred.

• A strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

• Familiarity with the regional geology of the Western U.S.

• Ability to supervise the field recovery of fossil specimens.

• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Proficiency in reading topographic, geological, and project maps.

• Capability to collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients.
