This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.
• Execute paleontological fieldwork for AECOM's U.S. West Rockies Environmental Planning and Permitting team
• Provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils at the genus or species level for various projects
• Carry out field monitoring operations
• Produce comprehensive and clear technical reports
• Conduct research and manage project-related data
• Travel and perform fieldwork at job sites across the Western U.S.
• Lead the field recovery of fossil specimens
• Collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients
• Work autonomously with minimal oversight
• Bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related discipline such as geology or biology
• 2 years of pertinent experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education focused on paleontological fieldwork and technical report writing
• Experience in paleontological fieldwork within the Western U.S.
• Capability to provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils to the genus or species level
• Proficiency in conducting field monitoring operations
• Strong writing, research, and data management abilities
• Willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork throughout the Western U.S.
• Capability to walk or trek over uneven terrain and long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended durations
• A valid U.S. driver's license is mandatory
• Ability to travel safely to job sites
• U.S. Citizenship is required
• An M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology or a related field is preferred
• Over 6 years of relevant paleontology experience is preferred
• Dual qualification in Archaeology is desirable
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
• Familiarity with the regional geology of the Western U.S.
• Ability to lead the field recovery of fossil specimens
• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
• Proficient in reading topographic, geological, and project maps
• Ability to collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients
