This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Become a part of AECOM's U.S. West Rockies Environmental Planning and Permitting team as an on-call paleontologist.

β€’ Conduct paleontological fieldwork and oversee field monitoring operations.

β€’ Provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils down to the genus- or species-level.

β€’ Prepare technical reports while conducting research and managing data.

β€’ Lead the field recovery of fossil specimens.

β€’ Travel to various job sites and perform fieldwork across the Western U.S.

β€’ Work autonomously with minimal supervision.

β€’ Collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ A Bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related discipline such as geology or biology.

β€’ A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education focused on paleontological fieldwork and technical reporting.

β€’ Experience in paleontological fieldwork within the Western U.S.

β€’ Capability to provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils to genus- or species-level.

β€’ Proficiency in field monitoring operations.

β€’ Excellent writing, research, and data management abilities.

β€’ Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Western U.S.

β€’ Capacity to walk/trek over uneven terrain and long distances in challenging weather conditions for extended durations.

β€’ A valid U.S. driver's license is mandatory.

β€’ U.S. Citizenship is required.

β€’ Preferred: An M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology or a related field.

β€’ Preferred: Over 6 years of relevant experience in paleontology.

β€’ Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

β€’ Knowledge of the regional geology of the Western U.S.

β€’ Ability to lead the field recovery of fossil specimens.

β€’ Proficiency in reading topographic, geological, and project maps.
