This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.
β’ Become a part of AECOM's U.S. West Rockies Environmental Planning and Permitting team as a skilled on-call paleontologist.
β’ Execute paleontological fieldwork and monitoring across the Western United States.
β’ Offer taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils down to the genus or species level.
β’ Oversee the field recovery of fossil specimens.
β’ Draft clear and concise technical reports.
β’ Conduct research and oversee project data management.
β’ Safely travel to job sites and perform fieldwork.
β’ Work collaboratively with crew members, supervisors, and clients.
β’ Operate independently with minimal supervision on project-based tasks.
β’ A bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related discipline such as geology or biology.
β’ A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education focused on paleontological fieldwork and technical report writing.
β’ Experience in paleontological fieldwork within the Western U.S.
β’ Capability to provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils to genus or species level.
β’ Proficiency in field monitoring operations.
β’ Strong writing, research, and data management skills.
β’ Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Western U.S.
β’ Ability to walk or trek over uneven terrain and long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended durations.
β’ A valid U.S. driver's license is mandatory.
β’ U.S. Citizenship is required.
β’ Preferred: An M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology or a related field.
β’ Preferred: Over 6 years of relevant paleontology experience.
β’ A solid understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
β’ Knowledge of the regional geology of the Western U.S.
β’ Ability to lead field recovery of fossil specimens.
β’ Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
β’ Proficiency in reading topographic, geological, and project maps.
β’ Ability to collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients.
