Paleontologist – On-Call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Become a part of AECOM's U.S. West Rockies Environmental Planning and Permitting team as a skilled on-call paleontologist.

• Execute paleontological fieldwork and monitoring across the Western United States.

• Offer taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils down to the genus or species level.

• Oversee the field recovery of fossil specimens.

• Draft clear and concise technical reports.

• Conduct research and oversee project data management.

• Safely travel to job sites and perform fieldwork.

• Work collaboratively with crew members, supervisors, and clients.

• Operate independently with minimal supervision on project-based tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related discipline such as geology or biology.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education focused on paleontological fieldwork and technical report writing.

• Experience in paleontological fieldwork within the Western U.S.

• Capability to provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils to genus or species level.

• Proficiency in field monitoring operations.

• Strong writing, research, and data management skills.

• Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Western U.S.

• Ability to walk or trek over uneven terrain and long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended durations.

• A valid U.S. driver's license is mandatory.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.

• Preferred: An M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology or a related field.

• Preferred: Over 6 years of relevant paleontology experience.

• A solid understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

• Knowledge of the regional geology of the Western U.S.

• Ability to lead field recovery of fossil specimens.

• Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Proficiency in reading topographic, geological, and project maps.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients.
