This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Manage daily accounting tasks and deliverables for a portfolio of nonprofit and/or government contractor clients.
• Ensure the monthly close processes, financial reporting, and compliance requirements are completed accurately and on time.
• Act as the main point of contact for ongoing communication with clients.
• Assist in client onboarding by setting up workflows, timelines, and expectations.
• Present financial results and key insights to client management and leadership teams.
• Plan, schedule, and staff engagements effectively; delegate responsibilities to foster staff development.
• Monitor engagement budgets, time budgets, and resource utilization; help with billing processes.
• Recognize opportunities for process enhancements, automation, and advisory insights.
• Review internal controls and staff work programs; provide coaching, training, and constructive feedback.
• Supervise and evaluate Staff and Senior Accountants while mentoring Supervisors.
• Prepare client financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP, regulations, and firm standards.
• Identify GAAP implications pertaining to client transactions.
• Anticipate potential issues, inform leadership about significant developments, analyze problems, and suggest solutions.
• Foster an inclusive, accountable, and collaborative team culture.
• Stay updated on relevant standards, regulations, industry trends, and cloud-based accounting tools.
• Conduct professional development programs.
• Prepare reports and projects as requested by partners.
• Engage in practice and proposal development initiatives.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
• Generally, 5-10 years of experience in public accounting/outsourced accounting, showing progression in complexity, scope, and the number of engagements managed.
• CPA designation is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with employees, partners, clients, and vendors.
• Ability to organize projects, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities in dynamic circumstances.
• Capability to take a lead role in planning and executing assigned projects.
• Ability to maintain focus on daily activities while keeping long-term objectives in perspective.
• Capacity to uphold the confidentiality of sensitive firm and client information.
• Proven ability to generate new business opportunities.
• At least 40 hours of continuing professional education required annually.
• Participation in a career development program is expected.
• Ability to mentor less experienced staff members.
• Proficiency in modern accounting technologies such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Nexonia, Excel, and Generative AI.
