Outside Auto Appraiser

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Rhode Island.

📋 Description

• Conduct thorough physical inspections to evaluate vehicle damage resulting from accidents, weather incidents, and other covered losses.

• Perform virtual or in-person inspections at body shops and customer premises.

• Carry out estimate reviews and work closely with repair facilities.

• Generate repair estimates utilizing industry-standard estimating software.

• Assess and resolve vehicle total losses by determining actual cash value through market research and analyzing comparable vehicles.

• Negotiate repair costs and settlements with body shops, customers, and third-party claimants.

• Identify and document any pre-existing damage, prior repairs, and possible indicators of fraud.

• Work in partnership with claim representatives, body shops, and vendors to coordinate repairs and address coverage or repair issues.

• Clearly explain the appraisal process, address inquiries, and keep vehicle owners updated throughout the claims process.

• Adapt to new technologies, system enhancements, and the rollout of digital tools, particularly those related to AI.

• Act as a technical resource for auto claim staff, providing advice on claim damages to claim professionals.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree.

• Active adjuster license, where applicable.

• Minimum of two years of experience in auto physical damage appraisal.

• Proficiency in claims management and estimating software.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and various enterprise technology systems and platforms.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

• Capacity to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions.

• Outstanding customer service skills.

• High attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.

• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently.

• Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution.

• Ability to handle stress while maintaining composure and professionalism under pressure.

• Fundamental understanding of insurance principles, terminology, state insurance regulations, and claims handling requirements.

• Quick learner with the ability to apply knowledge to new situations.

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• One year of experience in auto physical damage appraisal or a related claims role, or successful completion of the required Travelers Claim Representative training program.

• Valid driver’s license.
