Outpatient Coder II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Review medical records for outpatient services, focusing on surgical, emergency, oncology, and wound care, to appropriately assign CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes.

• Ensure that all coded information is accurate and complete for the purposes of billing and reimbursement.

• Remain informed about coding guidelines, regulations, and compliance standards relevant to outpatient services.

• Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to address coding discrepancies and gather additional documentation as needed.

• Partner with the Revenue Integrity team to identify and resolve coding-related issues that impact revenue cycle performance.

• Offer feedback and education to both clinical and administrative staff regarding best practices in coding and documentation.

• Engage in coding audits and initiatives aimed at quality improvement.

• Stay updated on changes in coding systems, reimbursement methods, and healthcare regulations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in outpatient coding within a hospital environment, preferably utilizing Meditech EHR.

• Comprehensive understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding systems.

• Familiarity with outpatient billing processes and reimbursement methodologies.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

• Proficient in using Meditech or similar electronic health record (EHR) systems.

• AHIMA Certification is required.

• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is preferred.

• Capability to sit for prolonged periods and engage in extensive computer use.

• Ability to concentrate on detailed information for coding purposes.
