This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +2 more states.
• Precisely assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and relevant modifiers for outpatient hospital encounters.
• Code records for Emergency Room visits, Outpatient admissions, Same-day medical procedures, and Same-day surgical interventions.
• Communicate with physicians or hospital staff through queries to ensure accurate documentation and coding assignments.
• Achieve or surpass established quality and productivity standards.
• Assist in managing the DNFB (Days Not Final Billed) to reduce uncoded days.
• Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement, billing, and revenue integrity teams.
• Identify gaps in documentation and escalate issues when clarification is required.
• Reach out to providers and staff to obtain missing documentation and decrease DNFB accounts.
• Abstract data with a high level of accuracy in accordance with established policies.
• Foster a collaborative coding atmosphere and adapt to evolving departmental needs.
• Ensure adherence to medical coding policies and guidelines.
• Maintain coding credentials and stay informed about current changes in outpatient coding.
• Perform other assigned responsibilities.
• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Certification as a Physician Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) is preferred.
• Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Proficient phone and email communication skills.
• Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while meeting productivity and quality objectives.
• Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Experience using an encoder and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is required.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Ability to perform under pressure.
• Capacity to interact effectively with other team members.
• Ability to lift 15 lbs. from floor to waist and 10 lbs. at waist level and above.
• Accurate near vision, far vision, depth perception, and hearing capabilities.
