Auditor Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.

📋 Description

• Code and abstract patient records for the purpose of professional billing.

• Conduct retrospective and concurrent reviews of patient medical records to ensure accurate coding and sequencing of diagnoses and procedures for reimbursement.

• Address and assist with coding inquiries and requests from billing staff.

• Act as a resource for complex coding inquiries.

• Support the resolution of insurance denials through correction and re-filing processes.

• Propose process enhancements to management, particularly concerning registration and charge posting procedures.

• Carry out work in adherence to federal, state, and insurance industry regulations.

• Comply with the established corporate compliance policies of the hospital.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance carrier rules and changes via carrier-specific and MCI educational resources.

⛳️ Requirements

• Fully remote work arrangement available.

• Full-time position requiring 80 hours biweekly, on a day shift schedule.

• A coding certification is mandatory.

• At least two years of current experience with ICDM 9, CPT coding, and health insurance provider regulations is required.

• A high school diploma or GED is necessary.

• Preferences include one to two years of post-secondary education.

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential.

• Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training tailored to the served population within three months of employment is required.

• Familiarity with physician EM coding is preferred.

• Proficiency in computer information systems is necessary.

• Strong professional, effective, and tactful communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.

• Ability to work independently, make sound decisions within hospital and departmental guidelines, and require minimal assistance from management.
