Organ Placement Coordinator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Guide resources to ensure successful organ placement for both transplantation and research purposes.

• Facilitate the placement of organs and tissues with transplant centers, research collaborators, procurement entities, OPOs, and surgical teams.

• Utilize the UNet system to match donor organs with appropriate transplant recipients and convey organ offers.

• Oversee national kidney allocation through UNOS and manage logistics between procurement agencies and transplant centers.

• Create medical social history narratives for DonorNet and support donor evaluations.

• Ensure that Critical Elements are fulfilled and that charts are thoroughly reviewed.

• Manage organ recovery and allocation responsibilities for LifeLink of Puerto Rico.

• Modify logistics to accommodate geographical considerations, time zones, transplant center requirements, and OPO needs.

• Acquire and report both preliminary and final culture results.

• Maintain the chain of custody and coordinate the transportation of organs and specimens.

• Document the final disposition and outcomes of organs.

• Monitor pulsatile kidney perfusion remotely and relay information to transplant centers and UNOS.

• Engage in call schedules, coordination of placements, documentation, follow-ups, and weekly reviews of organ placements.

• Foster relationships with hospitals, transplant centers, and surgical teams.

• Take part in hospital development initiatives and research projects.

• Complete necessary documentation, ensure quality assurance, meet deadlines, and engage in continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and external forums.

• Aid in training new coordinators and managing special projects.

• Participate in OPO quality assessment and performance improvement activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• RN or experience in a healthcare-related field is preferred.

• An Associate's degree or higher is required.

• A Bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.

• Capability to effectively manage multiple priorities while adhering to deadlines.

• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Ability to thrive in a high-stress environment and handle the emotional and physical demands of the position.

• Competence in managing responsibilities and maintaining performance during 24-hour on-call shifts.

• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.

• Availability via cell phone 24/7 as scheduled, including non-call emergency situations.

• Willingness to participate in call rotation.

• Ability to complete appropriate CEUs to maintain certifications and licensure.
