OpenStack Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Install and set up OpenStack components utilizing Kolla-Ansible according to the approved design.

• Prepare infrastructure nodes, which includes the operating system, KVM virtualization, container runtime, network interfaces, and storage access.

• Configure OVN tenant networks, VLAN provider networks, Cinder volume types, and boot-from-volume scenarios.

• Implement monitoring and logging solutions using Prometheus, exporters, Alertmanager, Grafana, Fluentd, and OpenSearch.

• Address second-line incidents and service requests within established service level agreements.

• Perform patching, node replacement, virtual machine evacuation, and upgrade support.

• Manage configuration repositories through merge requests and facilitate changes across environments.

• Automate repetitive tasks using Ansible and CI pipelines.

• Engage in the on-call rotation.

• Design and manage private and sovereign cloud platforms for enterprise clients in Western Europe.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in administering Linux in production, specifically in operating or implementing OpenStack.

• Daily management of Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, Placement, and Horizon, including projects, quotas, flavors, and images.

• Capability to diagnose instances, volume, and network operation failures using the OpenStack CLI and service logs.

• Understanding of API, scheduler, and agent components, as well as the message queue and state database.

• Experience with an OpenStack deployment framework, ideally Kolla-Ansible, and services operating as containers.

• Troubleshooting skills for KVM and libvirt in compute nodes.

• Proficient in Ansible and Git.

• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, NAT, filtering, overlay networks, and tenant/provider networks.

• English proficiency at B2 level for technical documentation and daily client interactions.

• Familiarity with Kolla-Ansible, OpenStack-Ansible, or TripleO.

• Experience with OVN or Open vSwitch.

• Knowledge of enterprise storage solutions over NFS or iSCSI.

• Experience with Proxmox VE, VMware vSphere, or similar virtualization platforms.

• Background in VMware migrations.

• Proficiency in Python for operational tooling and API integrations, or experience with Terraform and Kubernetes.

• Exposure to telco workloads or performance optimization techniques such as SR-IOV, DPDK, CPU pinning, and huge pages.

• Certification as an OpenStack Administrator, or certifications in Linux, networking, or cloud technologies.
