Protection & Control Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +9 more states.

📋 Description

• Design protection and control systems for substations in accordance with relevant codes and client standards.

• Create one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, logic diagrams, functional diagrams, panel layouts, wiring and connection diagrams, interconnection diagrams, communication systems, bills of materials, and SCADA systems.

• Develop designs for protective relaying and control systems for transmission and distribution substations.

• Formulate relay protection strategies, establish relay setting criteria, devise control philosophies, and perform engineering calculations.

• Generate specifications for equipment and materials, define design scopes, and prepare cost estimates.

• Finalize conceptual designs and layouts for protection and control systems in both new and existing substation facilities.

• Compile documentation to support procurement, construction, commissioning, and the operation and maintenance of systems.

• Engage in client meetings and site visits.

• Present engineering solutions, address technical challenges, and facilitate project execution.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.

• Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes, including the technical review and approval of engineering design packages.

• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

• 4-7 years of experience in Substation Protection & Control design engineering.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• Exceptional document management and organizational skills.

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.

• Ability to handle multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines concurrently.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Capacity to work effectively within a team environment and interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.
