OpenStack Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Become a member of an internal OpenStack team dedicated to developing and managing private and sovereign cloud platforms for enterprise clients across Western Europe.

• Install and set up OpenStack components utilizing Kolla-Ansible in line with approved designs.

• Prepare infrastructure nodes, addressing the operating system, KVM virtualization, container runtime, network interfaces, and storage access.

• Configure OVN tenant networks, VLAN provider networks, Cinder volume types, and boot-from-volume scenarios.

• Implement monitoring and logging solutions with Prometheus, exporters, Alertmanager, Grafana, Fluentd, and OpenSearch.

• Manage second-line incidents and service requests in accordance with agreed service levels.

• Carry out scheduled changes and maintenance, including patching, node replacement, virtual machine evacuation, and upgrade support.

• Maintain configuration repositories through merge requests and facilitate changes across environments.

• Automate repetitive tasks using Ansible and CI pipelines.

• Engage in the on-call rotation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in administering Linux in production environments, including the operation or implementation of OpenStack.

• Daily management of Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, Placement, and Horizon, covering projects, quotas, flavors, and images.

• Proficiency in diagnosing issues with instances, volumes, and network operations using the OpenStack CLI and service logs.

• Knowledge of API, scheduler, and agent components, as well as the message queue and state database.

• Experience with an OpenStack deployment framework, ideally Kolla-Ansible, and familiarity with services running in containers.

• Troubleshooting skills for KVM and libvirt on compute nodes.

• Practical experience with Ansible and Git.

• Understanding of networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, NAT, filtering, overlay networks, and the distinction between tenant and provider networks.

• Proficient in English at a B2 level for technical documentation and daily client interactions.

• Familiarity with Kolla-Ansible, OpenStack-Ansible, or TripleO.

• Knowledge of OVN or Open vSwitch.

• Experience with enterprise storage solutions over NFS or iSCSI.

• Familiarity with Proxmox VE, VMware vSphere, or other virtualization platforms.

• Experience with VMware migrations.

• Proficiency in Python for operational tooling and API integrations, or experience with Terraform and Kubernetes.

• Exposure to telco workloads or performance tuning techniques such as SR-IOV, DPDK, CPU pinning, and huge pages.

• Certification as an OpenStack Administrator, or other certifications in Linux, networking, or cloud technologies.
