OpenStack Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Become a member of an internal OpenStack team dedicated to designing and managing private and sovereign cloud solutions for enterprise clients in Western Europe.

• Implement and set up OpenStack components utilizing Kolla-Ansible in accordance with established designs.

• Prepare infrastructure nodes, which include the operating system, KVM virtualization, container runtime, network interfaces, and access to storage.

• Configure OVN tenant networks, VLAN provider networks, Cinder volume types, and scenarios for booting from volumes.

• Deploy monitoring and logging solutions using Prometheus, exporters, Alertmanager, Grafana, Fluentd, and OpenSearch.

• Address second-line incidents and service requests within the stipulated service levels.

• Carry out patching, node replacements, virtual machine evacuations, and provide upgrade support.

• Maintain configuration repositories through merge requests and facilitate changes across different environments.

• Automate repetitive tasks with Ansible and CI pipelines.

• Take part in the on-call rotation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in administering Linux in production settings, including the operation or implementation of OpenStack.

• Daily management of Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, Placement, and Horizon, covering projects, quotas, flavors, and images.

• Proficiency in diagnosing issues related to instances, volumes, and network operations using the OpenStack CLI and service logs.

• Familiarity with API, scheduler, and agent components, as well as message queues and state databases.

• Experience with an OpenStack deployment framework, ideally Kolla-Ansible, and services operating as containers.

• Troubleshooting experience with KVM and libvirt for compute nodes.

• Practical skills in Ansible and Git.

• Understanding of networking fundamentals such as VLANs, routing, NAT, filtering, overlay networks, and the distinction between tenant and provider networks.

• Proficiency in English at a B2 level for technical documentation and regular client interaction.

• Additional skills in Kolla-Ansible, OpenStack-Ansible, or TripleO.

• Familiarity with OVN or Open vSwitch, and enterprise storage solutions using NFS or iSCSI.

• Experience with Proxmox VE, VMware vSphere, or other virtualization platforms, along with experience in VMware migrations.

• Knowledge of Python for operational tooling and API integrations, or familiarity with Terraform and Kubernetes.

• Exposure to telco workloads or performance tuning techniques such as SR-IOV, DPDK, CPU pinning, and huge pages.

• Certification as an OpenStack Administrator, or relevant certifications in Linux, networking, or cloud technologies.
