On-Call Archaeologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas.

📋 Description

• Act as a Crew Member for projects related to cultural resources.

• Execute Phase I and Phase II surveys of cultural resources.

• Record archaeological sites and Inventory Objects/Inventory Forms (IOs/IFs).

• Perform probing or shovel testing procedures.

• Utilize hand-held field technology, including ArcGIS mobile applications paired with sub-meter GPS devices.

• Work autonomously while also contributing to a cooperative team atmosphere.

• Ensure consistent and timely attendance at work and meetings.

• Adhere to directives and modify work based on received feedback.

• Support and engage in the company's safety practices and employee ownership culture.

• Follow all relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Travel outside the main work area as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related discipline.

• Expertise in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology within the Midwest region.

• Skilled in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs in the Midwest region.

• Highly organized, motivated, detailed, reliable, and trustworthy.

• Strong navigational skills using GPS and compass.

• Capability to navigate and operate 4WD vehicles.

• Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to fulfill job responsibilities and communicate effectively with colleagues and vendors.

• Ability to work under moderate weather conditions, including variable temperatures, rain, and snow.

• Capacity to walk 4-10 miles daily over uneven terrain and lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Maintain consistent and timely attendance.

• Preferred: Experience with Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy tablets for documenting cultural resources.

• Preferred: Familiarity with sub-meter GPS receivers.

• Preferred: Experience using ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123.

• Preferred: Previous training in NHPA, NEPA, FERC, or other cultural or environmental protocols.

• Preferred: Strong writing and editing capabilities.

• Preferred: Ability to assess resources for National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility.
