On-Call Archaeologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Act as a Crew Member for projects involving cultural resources.

• Execute Phase I and Phase II surveys of cultural resources.

• Record archaeological sites and Inventory Objects/Inventory Forms (IOs/IFs).

• Perform probing or shovel testing as necessary.

• Utilize hand-held field technologies, including ArcGIS mobile applications in conjunction with sub-meter GPS receivers.

• Operate in moderate weather conditions such as varying temperatures, rain, and snow.

• Traverse 4–10 miles daily over rugged terrain and lift weights up to 50 lbs.

• Work autonomously while also contributing positively to a team-oriented environment.

• Maintain regular and prompt attendance at work and meetings.

• Follow directives and adapt work based on feedback received.

• Support and engage in Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group’s culture of safety and employee ownership.

• Adhere to relevant laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures.

• Travel outside as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related discipline.

• Skilled in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology within the Midwest region.

• Experienced in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs in the Midwest area.

• Highly organized, motivated, detail-oriented, accurate, reliable, and trustworthy.

• Excellent navigational abilities using GPS and a compass.

• Capable of driving and navigating 4WD vehicles.

• Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to fulfill job responsibilities and engage with colleagues and vendors.

• Able to work in moderate weather conditions, including rain and snow.

• Capable of walking 4–10 miles daily over challenging terrain.

• Able to lift weights up to 50 lbs.

• Proficient in using tablets, including Apple iPads or Samsung Galaxy devices.

• Experienced with sub-meter GPS receivers.

• Familiar with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications.

• Previous training in NHPA, NEPA, FERC, or other cultural or environmental disciplines.

• Strong writing and editing capabilities.

• Ability to assess resources for National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility.

• This position requires travel outside.
