Network & Security Engineer – pfSense, OPNsense

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Manage network and firewall issues within CONVOTIS / MCON, encompassing daily operations as well as project-based tasks.

• Set up and document IPSec VPNs and firewall configurations on pfSense and OPNsense.

• Design and document network architectures for both customer and internal initiatives.

• Conduct advanced troubleshooting, including detailed packet analysis and resolution of routing, switching, and VPN connectivity challenges.

• Initiate basic network automation using tools such as Ansible, Python, or Bash.

• Collaborate closely with the SOC team to review firewall logs and assist in mitigating security threats.

• Train and onboard new team members while sharing knowledge within the group.

• Propose enhancements to configurations and technical specifications.

• Engage in NOC/SOC Operations Team shift responsibilities, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

• Undertake additional tasks outside the primary role to expand knowledge or provide support to colleagues.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, excluding educational programs and internships.

• Extensive hands-on expertise with pfSense and OPNsense.

• Proficient in IPSec VPNs.

• Familiarity with BGP or other dynamic routing protocols.

• Experience with switches, preferably from Dell.

• Networking knowledge related to Proxmox.

• Comprehensive understanding of IPv4 and IPv6.

• Initial experience with network automation using Ansible, Python, or Bash.

• An independent and organized working style.

• Strong emphasis on thorough documentation.

• Proficiency in English and Spanish.

• Knowledge of German is a plus.

• Willingness to participate in shift duties, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

• Practical, in-depth expertise is valued more than formal certifications.
